Chamber Councils & Committees

The Rockford Chamber formed six councils to drive its committees, seminars and events. Thanks to all of the sponsors of the councils as well as the council chairmen, vice-chairmen and committee members for their hard work in making things happen.


Business Education Council

Business Education Council works to educate members on sound business practices with monthly seminars focused on sales, marketing, human resources, customer service, finance, management, security and other business-related topics.

In 2007, the council drew 68 Chamber members on average each month to its Breakfast Buzz seminars, held on the second Wednesday of the month, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., at Rock Valley College, Woodward Technology Center (RVC).

Topics covered by local speakers included: Dealing with the Rise in Utility Rates; Market Like a Guerilla, Sell Like a Gorilla; Case Studies: How Businesses Have Achieved Success Through the Web; Legal Issues with Unlawful Harassment; Getting Your Healthcare Costs Under Control, and How Government Economic Development Programs Can Assist Your Business Growth.

Business Minority Council
SPONSOR: First Northern Credit Union
CHAIRMAN: Gwyn Gulley, Wolf and Wolfe, Ltd.

With a commitment to assisting minority business owners and managers, this council hosts networking meetings and annual events to share information, to learn and discuss best practices, and to promote collaboration and advocacy for minority businesses in the community.

Business Professionals Council

This council fosters the career development and profile of several professional Chamber groups.

Ambassadors ensure that Chamber events run smoothly and assist at Business After Hours, Good Morning Rockfords!, ribbon cuttings, open houses, groundbreakings and other Chamber sponsored events.

Business Women's Council

With a commitment to assist area businesswomen, this council offers monthly opportunities to network and gather support. It hosts a mentors network and events to fellowship and educate the community on women in business.

Government Affairs Council
CHAIRMAN: Richard Goff, Rockford Products Corporation
VICE-CHAIRMAN: Ryan Brauns, Rockford Consulting & Brokerage

This council educates the Chamber members and board and advocates on their behalf with elected officials. It makes position recommendations on healthcare, better roads, city/county, taxes, education, environment, and accompanies them with an action plan.

Manufacturers Council
CHAIRMAN: Tom McDunn, Rockford Area Ventures

This council's mission is to ensure the vital role of manufacturing in the Rockford area. It hosts manufacturing-related events and works to develop and improve a range of services for existing manufacturers, advance their technologies and improve the manufacturing business climate.
