Ken-Rock Community Center is seeking legal representation on the Executive Board beginning July 1, 2008. Ken-Rock Center, a United Way agency has been serving the citizens of southeast Rockford for over 75 years in recreation, education and social service opportunities. The Board of Directors of Comprehensive Community Solutions, Inc., a nonprofit organization, is seeking volunteers to serve on the Board of this innovative, community-based agency. There are currently several vacancies for regular board members, as well as five seats for ex-officio board members. Board members serve either two or three-year terms without compensation. Ex-officio members are non-voting members who act as advisors and advocates for the organization. One third of the members of the Board of Directors shall be comprised of residents of low-income neighborhoods, other low-income neighborhood organizations or elected representatives of low-income neighborhood organizations and two members shall be graduates of the YouthBuild Program. Board meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month, and committees meet at such times and places as necessary.
In particular, the Board seeks candidates with backgrounds in accounting/financial services, workforce development, housing development, construction, or education.

The Red Cross is always looking for board members either to fill open spots or to recruit for future board openings. Terms are 3 years and board members can serve 2 consecutive terms and then must leave the board for at least one year before returning. We have three major criteria for potential board members. They are:
Attendance at 10 of the 12 board meetings. We usually meet on the third Wednesday of every month (except July and December) at noon. Meetings are usually one hour in length. Information regarding the agenda as well as supporting documentation is usually sent out prior to the meeting. This better ensures a productive, well informed meeting.
Each board member needs to be a member of a committee. Descriptions and meeting times vary and are discussed during the interview process.
All members are expected to financially support the Red Cross. Inherent to most successful grant applications is answering in the affirmative that we have 100% board support. Details regarding this expectation are also discussed at the interview. We are not looking for a specific amount just that all board members contribute annually.

The Barbara Olson Center of Hope is a nonprofit corporation located at 3206 N. Central Ave. in Rockford. Established in 1948 to provide vocational training for teens and adults with severe disabilities, our mission is to "Increase independence for people with special needs in a safe and positive way". The Directors (13 to 15 members) are responsible for establishing policy, providing buildings and equipment, and developing necessary financial support.
The Board of Directors holds at least ten monthly meetings annually, with the annual meeting held in May for the primary purpose of electing Directors and Officers.
Directors serve a term of four years, and may serve two consecutive terms. This is a non-compensatory membership. Members must be residents of Winnebago or Boone Counties.

Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center is seeking Board Members who understand and appreciate the value of quality end-of-life care and the importance of grief counseling in today's world. Ethnic Heritage Museum is an historic, six room 1890 home. The museum houses fascinating gallery displays of the six immigrant groups that originally settled in Southwest Rockford.: African-American, Irish, Lithuanian, Polish, Italian, and Hispanic. Each gallery has its own board which strives to preserve these and other cultures in our city. Generally 50% heritage is representative of each gallery, but any-one with a connection to a specific culture is encouraged to participate in and support gallery events.

If you want to make a difference in the lives of those in need then the Rock River Valley Pantry is the place for you! As a member of the Board of Directors you will be instrumental in establishing the annual goals and objects in addition to determining the long term vision.
The Rock River Valley Pantry (RRVP) is a community based not-for-profit organization that provides emergency and short term nutritional food assistance to families and individuals. The RRVP is currently providing for more then 2,000 households each month representing more then 5,000 individuals, of which 45% are children.
As a Board Director you should be prepared to:
- Attend the BOD meeting the 3rd Wednesday of each month
- Commit to a three year renewable term
- Participate on one committee (Finance, Client Services, Nominating, Fundraising)
- Assist with special events and fundraising efforts
The Board packet is emailed to BOD's one week prior to the Board meeting so as to help each Director prepare for the meeting. The meeting is usually one hour in length as much of the work is done at committee level.

The Natural Land Institute is a 50-year-old non-profit group based in Rockford that protects natural land for people, plants and animals in northern Illinois. We have a vacancy to fill a one-year term on our Board of Trustees; full terms are for three years. We are looking for a younger person in an interest in wildlife conservation to fill the position, who would be eligible for re-election in 2009. 2009 Commissioner Election Information for Prospective Candidates
1. Two seats on the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners will be on the ballot at the April 7, 2009 election.
a. Each member of the five-member non-partisan Board of Commissioners serves a six year term.
b. The Commissioners are elected at large and serve without compensation.
2. The Rockford Park District serves a population of approximately 208,000 people within the Cities of Rockford and Loves Park, the Villages of Cherry Valley and New Milford and portions of the Village of Machesney Park and unincorporated Winnebago County.
3. The 2008 operating budget for the District is $30,634,246. Land holdings total almost 5,000 acres and the District employs 192 regular and 1,547 seasonal employees. Please visit the District’s website, www.rockfordparkdistrict.org, for comprehensive information about its operations, programs and facilities.
4. Board meetings are normally held at the District’s administrative offices, 401 S. Main Street, at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. In addition, individual Commissioners represent the Board as liaisons on District committees or initiatives throughout the year. Examples include the District’s Financial Advisory Committee, the Rockford Park District Foundation, the WinGIS Policy Committee, the 100th Anniversary Committee, the River District Association and communication with area Legislators about state and federal legislation that impacts parks and recreation.
5. Candidates for the position of Park District Commissioner must be registered voters and have lived within the Park District for at least one year prior to the 2009 election. Candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions for signature on October 28, 2008, and file the completed petitions with the Election Official at the Park District offices, 401 S. Main Street, during regular business hours from Monday, January 19 through January 26, 2009.
a. Petitions must be signed by not less than 2% of number of ballots cast at the last election for Park Commissioners, or 615 persons.
b. To sign a petition, a person must be a registered voter and a resident of the Rockford Park District.
c. To circulate a petition a person must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.

Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity is seeking legal representation on the board of directors beginning January 15, 2009. Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that sells homes at no-profit to qualified families. Families must prove their total household income is between 25%-60% of the county median income to receive the no interest mortgage.
