Going green is good for business
ComEd, DCEO roll out incentives to encourage customers to make more energy smart choices
On the verge of a big rollout of programs by ComEd and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to encourage businesses and homeowners to adopt more environmentally friendly practices, Winnebago County Green Business, a new grassroots initiative, recognized four area companies that already are participating in sustainable business practices.

First-year campaign draws 120 plus new members in three days
Chamber members reach out to bring in more businesses
Two days of work by loyal Chamber-member volunteers yielded amazing results with the Rockford Chamber welcoming 124 new members.
On June 3 and 4, six teams of more than 100 local business volunteers gathered in three-hour shifts to call their contacts on a bank of phones at Midway Village Museum. Over the din of their conversations, they rang cow bells; each time signaling that a new member had joined the Chamber.

Event brings national explorer to Rockford
Chamber members reach out to bring in more businesses
More than 650 business women and men attended the Rockford Chamber’s sold-out Women in Business Expo and Luncheon at Cliffbreakers; listening attentively and laughing often as national author, physician and explorer Dr. Jerri Nielsen shared stories on what it was like dealing with chemical toilets, and lessons she learned crammed in close quarters with different personalities in subzero temperatures. Dr. Nielsen made headlines around the world when she diagnosed and treated herself for breast cancer while stranded at the South Pole.
